# Swarm Protocol Deterministic coordination and stigmergic shared memory without token waste.

Autonomous multi-agent orchestration without natural language message passing. The Honeycomb method couples SQLite WAL persistence with an in-memory reflex bus, eliminating coordination overhead and shielding operational credentials.

## 1. The Core Problem

Traditional multi-agent frameworks rely on natural language communication between models. In mission-critical environments and real-world channels, this paradigm causes four severe failure modes.

### Runaway Token Drain
Agents negotiating tasks in natural language consume up to seventy percent of total token budgets on internal orchestration. Across multi-turn production probes, this overhead makes operations financially unviable.

### Cascading Context Drift
Passing intermediate reasoning traces across agent instances contaminates persona authenticity. Ambiguity cascades across turns, degrading the fidelity of external testing.

### Exploration Race Conditions
Without low-latency shared state synchronization, concurrent workers query identical paths or trigger identical edge guardrails simultaneously.

### Identity and Credential Friction
Messaging surfaces such as WhatsApp require unique phone identities, persistent Signal Double Ratchet sessions, and sticky residential proxies. Uncoordinated message repetition damages account reputation and triggers instant bans.

## 2. Why Existing Solutions Fail

We evaluated and rejected four prevalent industry architectures.

### LLM-Based Routers
Frameworks such as AutoGen and CrewAI use models to decide next steps. This approach is non-deterministic, introduces multi-second decision latency, and creates recursive cost loops.

### External Message Brokers
Brokers like Redis, Kafka, and RabbitMQ introduce heavy external container dependencies for state that fits on a single execution node. They lack native graph transition semantics and atomic key management.

### Pure Database Polling
Polling loops against disk tables introduce one to three second blind windows where concurrent workers execute redundant turns. Furthermore, uncalibrated read connections lock WAL checkpoints, triggering file bloat and read degradation.

### Heavy Graph Memory Engines
Solutions extracting entity graphs via LLM on every incoming turn multiply inference costs during warm-up stages. Dedicated JVM graph servers add unnecessary operational complexity for state graphs of thirty to one hundred nodes.

## 3. Honeycomb Stigmergic Architecture

Inspired by social insect colonies, Agents Swarm implements hybrid stigmergy. Agents do not communicate directly. Each worker modifies the shared environment and reacts to digital pheromones deposited in Honeycomb.

### Honeycomb Ledger in SQLite WAL
The HoneycombLedger operates as the single source of truth under an asymmetric connection topology:
* One persistent writer connection serialized via an asynchronous lock, configured with a five-second busy timeout and normal synchronization.
* A pool of four dedicated reader connections operating in query-only mode, releasing cursors immediately to prevent lock retention on the write-ahead log.
* A deterministic restart checkpoint routine executed every fifty turns or sixty seconds, transferring pages to the main file and resetting the log size.
* Nine structured tables persisting scouts, Fernet-encrypted identities, missions, turns with PT-BR toxicity scores (Bertimbau), nodes, and edges of the reconstructed state graph.

### In-Process Reflex Bus
The SwarmReflexBus distributes ephemeral signals in under ten milliseconds without external brokers:
* Route Saturated: Alerts workers when an intent signature has been mapped, preventing duplicated queries.
* Guardrail Hazard: Marks static refusal barriers and increments the scout exposure score.
* Scout Heat High: Triggers preventive cooldown before messaging platform abuse thresholds are breached.
* Circuit Breaker & Panic: Forces instant mission termination while preserving Signal ratchet states.

## 4. Parallel Functional Specialization

To diagnose complex systems across four dimensions simultaneously, the hive decouples operations into four specialized roles:
* Queen: Deterministic three-second loop with Swarm Self-Healing governing population homeostasis, enforcing a one-message-per-second pacing semaphore, and triggering resource circuit breakers.
* Incubator: Manages virtual identities, binds 50 Brazilian demographic profiles (FinePersonas), maintains sticky residential proxy tunnels with ASN guards, and advances Signal Double Ratchet keys incrementally.
* Scouts: Surgical exploration squads in LangGraph consuming the Honeycomb route exclusion vector and firing Garak adversarial probes, PT-BR WildJailbreak turns, and 4k–32k LongBench contexts.
* Inspector: Analytical engine that calculates net inference latency, clusters responses with local 384D embeddings (<10ms), detects semantic vector collapse, classifies PT-BR toxicity, and models denial of wallet curves in NetworkX.

## Open Source Implementation

The complete implementation (v1.6.3) of the Honeycomb protocol (HACP v1.0.0), Swarm Self-Healing engine, reflex bus, and spatial control plane is available in the Agents Swarm repository on GitHub.
